Device Hunt helps you physically locate an asset when you don’t know where it is. The app shows the device’s last confirmed location on a floor plan and updates your own position as you move through the building.

When to use Device Hunt

  • A ticket came in for a device and you don’t know which room it’s in
  • An asset is missing from its expected location and needs to be recovered
  • A compliance officer needs a device physically located and verified immediately

How to start a Device Hunt

1

Find the asset in the app

From the Forager home screen, tap Find Device. Enter the asset tag — you can type it manually or scan the barcode if you have access to a printed asset list.
2

Review the last known location

The app shows a card with the asset’s last confirmed location and how recently it was confirmed. If the location was confirmed recently, the device is likely still there. If a floor plan is available for that floor, the app displays it with an orange pin marking the last known room.
3

Navigate to the room

Head toward the indicated room. As you move through the building, the app detects which room you’re currently in and shows a green “You are here” pin on the floor plan. When both pins are visible on the same floor plan, you can see exactly how far you are from the target.
4

Confirm when found

When the app detects you are in the same room as the asset’s last known location, it shows a “You’re in the right room!” prompt. Scan the asset’s barcode to confirm it is physically present. Tap Mark as Found. This records a confirmation and closes the hunt.

When the floor plan shows different floors

If you are on a different floor than the asset, the floor plan shows your current floor and the asset’s floor separately. Navigate to the correct floor first, then the app will show both pins once you’re on the same floor.

When no floor plan is available

If the floor has no floor plan uploaded, Device Hunt still works — the app shows the room name as text and updates your current room as a text label. Contact your admin to upload a floor plan for improved navigation.

If the device is not in the indicated room

If you reach the room and the device is not there, it may have been moved since the last confirmation. Check nearby rooms and scan the barcode when found. The new location will be recorded.
Device Hunt shows the last confirmed location, not a live GPS position. A device that was moved after its last scan will show the old location. More frequent scanning by the team reduces the chance of stale location data.
